Buona Fortuna Lofts
The Buona Fortuna Lofts is a mixed-use proposal in the Little Italy neighborhood of San Diego. The building is orchestrated around a series of outdoor spaces, providing a full spectrum of public and private spaces in a tight urban environment. The building is pushed close to the sidewalk in order to extend the "street wall" of adjacent blocks and activate the sidewalk with storefronts and people. An interior courtyard is open to the public and acts as a mixing point for public and private functions. Patios, arcades and overlooks mediate between, and connect, the units above and the activity below. Architectural massing that reflects the community's historic small lot development and an emphasis on the pedestrian rather than the automobile help the Buona Fortuna Lofts fit into and expands its neighborhood context.
